The Muslims of Rutgers University
posted on April 22nd, 2008

Rutgers University harbors one of the largest, most diverse Muslim
populations in the entire country. With so many people, so many minds
and so many talents all gathered together in one central location, the
question arises -
what are we doing about it? How is this great potential being utilized
and where are its results?
An even greater question that arises is that at a university with so
many Muslims, why are there TWO Muslim student organizations with
similar events and programs working towards similar goals?
Join us as we go deep into the root causes of having two Muslim clubs
and MOST IMPORTANTLY,-what we need to do next for the future. This
discussion is open to all and will be on BUSCH CAMPUS in the student
center Rm 211 abc.
Come with thoughts, ideas, and insights to what you feel the issues
may be and how to go about overcoming them.
InshAllah see you there!
Also, if you (or anyone you know) would like to nominate someone to be
on the eboard next semester, make sure you contact an officer and
notify him/her and express your interest.

Skin Deep: A Talk on Making Prejudgements
Guest Speaker: Khalid Latif!
Imam Latif is the Muslim chaplain at NYU. Under his leadership, the Islamic Center at NYU became the first ever fully established Muslim student center at an institution of higher education in the United States. Imam Latif's exceptional dedication and ability to cross interfaith and cultural lines on a daily basis brought him recognition throughout the city, so much so that in 2007 Mayor Michael Bloomberg nominated Imam Latif to become the youngest chaplain in history of the New York City Police Department at the age of 24.
He has been invited to speak at the United Nations, Apollo Theater, Carnegie Hall and a number of prestigious universities, including Princeton, Harvard, the University of Massachusetts, Stonybrook and the University of Pennsylvania.
Join us Thursday night for a discussion on this extremely relevant topic that we could all improve ourselves on, inshaAllah

Intentions: Directions of the Heart

Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
"I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended..." - reported in Bukhari
As the prophet (peace be upon him said), Allah judges our actions based on our intentions. No doubt, this means that having our intentions straight is a must. This week at ISRU, we learn about the importance of having the correct intentions, and most importantly, how to make sure our intentions are correct.
Also; make sure you come prepared with ideas as we begin planning for biggest event of the year; Islam Awareness Week!

They pay for college,

yet they still love you more than anything in the world.
Isn't it about time you did something for them?
Join us this Thursday as Abdel Moni Abdur-Rahman tells us what Islam has to say
about parents. Come and learn what you need to know about maintaining your
relationship with your parents. Learning how to properly deal with them is
the least we can do.
